Mi Familia Vota Education Fund, National Director of Development & Communications
Lizette Escobedo currently serves as National Director of Development & Communications at the Mi Familia Vota Education Fund (MFVEF), where she is responsible for ensuring program support and sustainability along with national Communications strategies, messaging, and media relations. Prior to MFVEF Ms. Escobedo served as Director of National Programs and Community Relations at the NALEO Educational Fund, where she led the implementation of civic engagement efforts nationwide, including citizenship, voter engagement, redistricting, and census efforts.
Lizette joined the NALEO Educational Fund in 2008 as a temporary California Statewide Field Director during the 2008 presidential elections and was promoted to Deputy Director of Naturalization shortly after in 2009, helping re-energize the nationally recognized ya es hora¡ Ciudadanía! Campaign that same year.
In 2010, Lizette worked on the ya es hora ¡Hagase Contar!, Census Enumeration campaign and the re-launch of the ya es hora ¡Ve y Vota! Midterm election campaign at the national level, working with local partners and national Spanish language media partners. The ya es hora¡ Ciudadanía! campaign has been nationally recognized by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as one of the most effective campaign models to ensure Latinos access to the American political process. Lizette helped lead the NALEO Educational Fund’s national
implementation of the New Americans Campaign in Los Angeles, Long Beach, Miami, New York, Houston, Dallas, and Charlotte and the launch of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals national bilingual hotline as part of the National Legal Implementation Strategy Team (NLIST) and the “ Own the DREAM” campaign.
Prior to NALEO, Lizette received numerous recognitions for her work under the Small Business Administration Women’s Business Center in the Inland Empire (CA), where she assisted Latina/o and immigrant business owners with business development opportunities, from micro financing to business planning. She has also worked in the Education sector with various ELL and Early Academic Outreach Programs in San Diego, including as Research Assistant with focus on Cognitive Recognition and Language Development under the Communications Department at UC San Diego. Ms. Escobedo received her B.A. from the University of California, San Diego, with a double major in Ethnic Studies and Communications.
Lizette was born and raised in Bell Gardens, California from parents who emigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, but most importantly, she is also a proud single mother of a beautiful 4-year old girl, Rosita.
